The brain’s sorrowful mysteries: the challenge of developing new treatments for neurological disease

The past several decades have witnessed spectacular advances in fundamental brain research, but with few exceptions these have not led to comparable progress in clinical treatment for brain disorders.  I will discuss the challenges of bridging the gap from basic research to new treatments, focusing primarily on the example of Alzheimer’s disease, an area of active research at Brigham and Women’s Hospital where I am now based.
