Lynne Kiorpes is a Collegiate Professor and Professor of Neural Science and Psychology in the Center for Neural Science at New York University. She earned her BS degree at Northeastern University and her PhD in Physiological Psychology at the University of Washington. She joined the faculty at New York University in 1985. Her research centers on the development of visual function and the influence of visual experience on development of the brain. Using behavioral, electrophysiological and neuroanatomical methods, she studies how the development of visual abilities is related to changes in neuronal properties and neural circuitry after birth in primates, and the mechanisms by which this developmental process is affected by abnormal visual experience. She has received a Scholar Award from the James S. McDonnell Foundation, numerous grants from the National Eye Institute, and the University Distinguished Teaching Medal from NYU.
